Learn the Art of Tying Knots with kit from the Grand Marais Library

The Grand Marais Public Library is hosting another “Take & Make Kits” giveaway during the month of July. Kit recipients learn the basic three knots of macramé and create a trendy micro-macramé zipper pull.

This Do-it-Yourself project, created by Minnesota Artist Jen Anfinson, can be used on jackets, backpacks, travel cases, purses – anything with a zipper. It’s a great hands-on opportunity to create an artistic gift or start a new hobby. Each kit comes with step-by-step illustrated directions, yarn and a clasp for attaching the zipper pull. Anfinson also created a supplemental how-to video to be shared via social media. This program is geared towards adults and kids ages 10 and up. Younger participants may need some assistance with the project.

From free juggling kits and seven-day state park parking passes to youths’ literacy programs and summer reading activities, the library is as busy as ever promoting lifelong learning in the community. Director Amanda St. John said, “The library’s on a mission to inspire creativity throughout Cook County and does ‘knot’ plan on stopping anytime soon.”

A limited number of kits are available, so patrons are encouraged to stop by soon, starting July 1. Anyone enthused about macramé may also enjoy borrowing yarn craft books from the library, or accessing the library’s newest online resource Creative Bug! The database features unlimited access to more than 1,000 award-winning arts and crafts video classes taught by recognized design experts and artists. While an Arrowhead Library System borrower’s card is needed to access Creative Bug, everyone is welcome to request Take and Make zipper pulls.

The Art of Tying Knot program, sponsored by the Arrowhead Library System, was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
