Cook County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) is offering two public presentations to share the findings of its recently completed Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan. The first presentation will be Saturday, November 2nd, from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Grand Marais Public Library. The second presentation will be Monday, November 4th, in the Commissioner’s Room of the Cook County Courthouse.
Every five years, the state of Minnesota requires local public health departments to assess the health of their population in collaboration with community partner agencies, to prioritize areas for improvement, and to create a plan toward specific goals related to each priority health area. In Cook County, 41 community representatives came together over a series of two years to develop our Community Health Assessment and Improvement Plan.
The six areas we will prioritize to improve our collective health include:
All community members have safe and stable housing.
Community members of all ages and abilities can access specialty services.
Elders experience support to age in our community
Families with young children experience community support
People can access behavioral health services when they need them.
People who have experienced substance abuse have support to move toward recovery.
Presentations will include an overview of the planning process, detail related to each priority area, and planned community efforts across multiple agencies related to each priority area. We invite all community members to learn more and add their feedback.
