The status of the gray wolf is a controversial topic and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is encouraging residents to learn more about its wolf management plans, now that the state has assumed management of the gray wolf on Jan. 27.
The DNR’s home page – www.dnr.state. mn.us has links to a variety of gray wolf information sources including frequently asked questions; links to recent news releases; and links to the state’s wolf management plan, wolf depredation and wolf distribution maps.
The DNR has also posted an informative 30-minute video clip of Dr. David Mech, wolf researcher with the U.S. Geological Survey and adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota. Mech participated in a questionand answer session Jan. 26 before the House Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Policy and Finance Committee. Mech’s testimony is a valuable resource for understanding wolf management and population dynamics in Minnesota.
