District 8 congressional candidate Leah Phifer has received the endorsements of Our Revolution-Duluth, Our Revolution Minnesota, and of former state senator and gubernatorial candidate Becky Lourey.

“We are proud to announce that Leah Phifer earned our endorsement by reaching the 60 percent threshold on the second round of voting. Of all the DFL candidates vying for the open U.S. House seat, we believe that Leah Phifer is most aligned with the progressive values of Our Revolution- Duluth,” stated the announcement by Mike Mayou and Rich Updegrove, co-facilitators of Our Revolution- Duluth.

On Friday, the state group adopted the Duluth chapter’s position. “Following the lead of Our Revolution-Duluth, Our Revolution MN is respecting their endorsement of Leah Phifer to the CD8 DFL convention for endorsement.”

Becky Lourey of Kerrick announced that she would be supporting Leah Phifer for the 8th Congressional District seat, vacated with the retirement of her longtime friend, Rick Nolan.

“I believe Leah is our future. Her work with the FBI gives her insight into how government works. She knows our region, she understands that listening and working through issues and concerns with constituents is what good leadership and quality government requires.,” said Lourey. “She loves our district and is dedicated to serving us with energy and enthusiasm.”

Lourey is a small business owner in northern Pine County, with 12 children and many grandchildren. She was instrumental in developing and passing Minnesota’s health care legislation and is currently involved in helping to secure broadband throughout rural Minnesota.

Phifer continues to travel the district, meeting with residents and DFL activists, building support for the DFL endorsement. With 13 of 18 organizing unit conventions held, she is leading by a wide margin in the number of “named” delegates, those announced to be supporting her for the endorsement. The party will make its decision at the 8th District’s endorsing convention April 14 in Duluth.
