Laurie J. Toth, 63, died Dec. 29, 2017 in her home in Minneapolis. She was an accomplished artist and teacher and will be greatly missed.
Laurie received a BFA in painting from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design where she studied with Birney Quick. In the late ’70s she attended the Grand Marais Art Colony where she fell in love with landscape painting. Laurie’s primary medium became soft pastels and she made her own sticks to augment her purchased palette.
A dedicated teacher, Laurie had almost 40 years of teaching experience in numerous institutions, more recently the Grand Marais Art Colony, Dakota Center for the Arts, Eagan Arthouse and the Bloomington Center for the Arts.
Laurie’s legacy includes a substantial collection of exquisite works. For many years Sivertson Gallery sold her art and in 2017 it was exhibited at Art of the Elements Gallery, Grand Marais.
