Laura E. Ranning,
88, of Minneapolis passed away Oct. 11, 2012 at the Silver Bay Veterans Home.
She was born Feb. 13, 1924 in Grand Marais to Hans and Andrea (Eide) Larsen. She attended school in Grand Marais and graduated from Cook County High School. She met her husband, Eugene (Red) Ranning, while she was working at Leng’s Fountain. Gene was in Cook County working for the Civilian Conservation Corp. They moved to Minneapolis in 1949 but she always called Grand Marais home. She returned as often as she could to visit with family and friends.
Laura is survived by her sons Keith (Sharon), Craig (Betty), Brad (Karen), Jeffrey (Debbie Johnson) and daughter Jeannie Marcom; sisters-in-law Betty, Evelyn and Marilyn Larsen, Helene Smith and Nona Smith; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene (Red) Ranning; son Steve D. Ranning; great-grandson Joshua Ranning; and brothers Bernard Larsen, Lloyd Larsen, Henry Larsen, Roger Larsen, Jewel Smith, Stanley Smith, Melvin Smith; sister, Eileen Burke; sister-in-law Grace Smith and brother-in-law, William Burke.
Services and a celebration of her life will be held in the spring in Grand Marais. Burial will be at Fort Snelling beside her husband Gene. Memorials preferred to the Cook County Historical Society.
