The Grand Marais Swimming Pool was closed for good on Tuesday, December 31. A commemorative “Last Splash” party was held Friday, December 27, with several hundred people attending. Above: Art Kidd, like a great many people, shared his memories about what the pool has meant to him over the years.
Joyce Heiskari wore out her 18-monthold granddaughter, Malia Berneking, at the Last Splash party. Heiskari said she has had a pool pass “forever” and is feeling nostalgic about the pool’s closing. “It was a wonderful place and I will miss it,” said Heiskari.
