Larry Lawrence Shepard, 70, of Grand Marais passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the North Shore Hospital in Grand Marais after a long battle with cancer.
He was born April 10, 1948 to Lawrence and Iris (Linnell) Shepard at the North Shore Hospital. Larry graduated from Cook County High School in 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam war.
He returned home after the war and worked at Taconite Harbor, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Hedstrom Lumber Company, Superior National Golf Course, and guiding hunters with his brother Kelly.
He loved hunting, fishing, oil painting, working and gardening on his home and property.
Larry is preceded in death by his father Lawrence.
He is survived by his mother, Iris Shepard of Grand Marais; siblings Kathi (Wayne) Kallestrad of White Bear Township, Minn., Gary (Brenda Johnson) Shepard of Venice Beach, Calif., Gail (James) Ahlgren of Norman, Okla., and Kelly Shepard (Roxanne) of Grand Marais; seven nieces and nephews; and five great-nieces and –nephews.
Larry will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 3 at the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Marais.
