Land border between U.S. and Canada to remain closed to non-essential travel

The Biden administration extended the land border closure for non-essential travel with Canada until October 21, 2021.

The order applies to the border between Mexico and the U.S. as well.

The announcement came from Jeffrey Zients, Assistant to the President, Counselor to the President and Coordinator of the COVID-19 response team.

Due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, both countries closed their borders to each other in March 2020. Canada opened its border to the U.S. on August 9, 2021, breaking the 17-month closure. That said, Canadians are allowed to fly to America for non-essential travel, but not drive.

Just when the border will open is still a mystery but the restrictions on travel seem to slowly be loosening.
