Anglers or pleasure boaters who like to head out onto Lake Superior from Horseshoe Bay in Hovland will have to travel to another water access until sometime in fall 2009 as the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources completes a construction project.
DNR spokesperson Joe Russell said the Lake Superior water access was closed effective July 27. Russell said the DNR is constructing a crib dock structure, which will offer more protection and will make it easier for boaters to launch. The project will also improve the parking area.
Russell said the completed project will look similar to the water access at Twin Points, between Split Rock and Gooseberry Falls.
Russell said he is not certain when the entire project will be finished, but the DNR must complete the work in the water by September 30, 2009. It may take a little longer to complete the landside work on the parking lot. Russell said notice would be published in the Cook County News-Herald when the water access was again available.
