Once again area locations and businesses in Cook County were named “Best of the Lake” favorites by Lake Superior Magazine readers.
According to the magazine, the survey generated votes from three Ontario provinces and 23 states, plus the District of Columbia.
Readers had eight categories to vote for, as well as an additional option, “for readers to plug their favorites that may not fall into other categories.”
The winners listed below are for Minnesota. Each lake state: Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, and also the Canadian province of Ontario, had winners in the various categories.
In the Best Shopping Stop: the two businesses listed in Minnesota were the Lake Superior Trading Post and Sivertson Gallery.
Grand Marais and Duluth were voted Best Place for a Day Trip.
In the Best Indulgent Overnight Stay category, Bluefin Bay in Tofte, Cove Point Lodge in Beaver Bay and the Solglimt in Duluth were the top vote getters.
Angry Trout Café in Grand Marais and the Rustic Inn Café located in Castle Danger were named the Best Place for a Local Fish Dish.
Highway 61 from Duluth to Grand Portage was named the Best Ride for Motorcycles. That and the Old Shore Drive from Two Harbors to Duluth.
Cook County was shutout in the Best Wacky Attraction category, as well as Best Wayside Pullover and Best Camping Site.
However, in the Readers’ Choice category, the Lake Superior Hiking Trail was voted best place to social distance and Beth’s Fudge and Gifts was named A Great Place to Stop and Shop.
