Once again area locations and businesses in Cook County were named “Best of the Lake” favorites by Lake Superior Magazine readers.
According to magazine, the survey generated votes from three Ontario provinces and 23 states, plus the District of Columbia.
Readers had nine categories to vote for, as well as two options, “for folks to ignore our designations and come up with their own favorites.”
The winners listed below are for Minnesota. Each lake state, Michigan, Wisconsin, and the Canadian province of Ontario also had winners in the nine categories.
Grand Marais waterfront and Park Point in Duluth were the readers’ choices for “Best Strolling or Swimming Beach.”
Readers chose Bluefin Bay on Lake Superior in Tofte for “Best Customer Service” with The Inn on Lake Superior in Duluth finishing second.
Voted “Best Local Restaurant/Cafe/Eatery” was Bluefin Grille in Tofte and the Angry Trout in Grand Marais.
Bluefin Bay was also voted “Best Family Overnight Lodging” facility with the Cove Point Lodge in Beaver Bay voted second best lodging facility.
Lake Superior Trading Post and Drury Lane Books were named the state’s top two “Best Gift Shop/ Bookstore/Etc.” winners.
Local “Reader’s Choice” brewery winners were Voyageur Brewing and the GunFlint Tavern. The World’s Best Donuts also received a Reader’s Choice award.
In the “Best Accessible Trail” category the Superior Hiking Trail and Gooseberry Falls State Park trails won for Minnesota.
The Grand Marais Municipal Campground and RV Park was named the state’s best local campground, with Tettegouche State Park placing second.
In the “Best Way to Experience” the lake, a reader wrote that, “Nothing can compare to a vacation in Grand Marais.”
