Kristin DeArruda hired as Public Health Educator

Kristin DeArruda Wharton has accepted the role as Cook County’s Public Health Educator.

Cook County Commissioner’s green lighted the hire at their Tuesday, June 9 board meeting.

Kristin is well positioned for the job. She holds a Master of Science in nursing from Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, Kentucky and her bachelor’s degree is in nursing from the College of St. Scholastica.

Additionally, Kristin is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and she has vast experience in public health, acute care and maternal child health care. She was also a clinical faculty member at the College of St. Scholastica.

Locally Kristin has served as the coordinator for both Moving Matters and the Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) and worked with the WIC Program, Breastfeeding Support, and Childbirth Education.

In 2017 Kristin was awarded a prestigious two-year Bush Fellowship. As part of her study she said, ““My plan for the Bush Fellowship is to become a stronger leader for rural health.”

As Cook County’s Public Health Educator, she will certainly get that chance.
