The Cook County High School Knowledge Bowl team qualified for the state meet but COVID-19 took away most of the team.
“Knowledge Bowl was greatly impacted by quarantine,” said Head Coach April Wahlstrom. “We were only able to compete with two kids, Kyler Hansen and Grace Ritchey. They stayed out of last place finishing 23 out of 24.”
Teams typically have five kids to compete in a meet, although a school can compete with only one entrant. Teams are generally made up of students who complement each other with different academic strengths: math, science, history, government, etc. That way they can cover the different subjects thrown at them during a tournament.
All in all, the return to state marks a long run of teams from Cook County who have participated at the highest level of Knowledge Bowl. Go Vikings!
