Know the regs before deer season starts

Staff reports

While many North Shore residents are enjoying the sunny fall days, there are a few folks who want to see temperatures drop—bow hunters would have liked cold weather for the start of deer archery season on September 18. Firearm deer season starts on November 6 and muzzleloader season begins November 27.

As hunters hike through the woods looking for tree rubbings and other deer sign, they should also take some time to read the current regulations handbook. Included in the changes are deer permit area boundaries; how to apply for eithersex deer permits; 2010 lottery deer areas; 300-series deer seasons; youth deer season; and new deer registration options.

The 2010 booklet is available wherever hunting and angling licenses are sold, online at www. mndnr.gov, and in many Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offices across the state. A hunter
