Are you an artist or someone who would hesitate to call yourself an artist? A craftsperson or a student? Then you are invited to submit work for the eighth annual show sponsored by Spirit of the Wilderness Episcopal Church. Each year we use the broad heading “Entry Points to the Creative,” in which we challenge the community to produce work on the intersection between creativity and spirituality. This year’s show, entitled Kindling Curiosity– Lighting the Creative Spark will open March 24 and run through April 9 at Johnson Heritage Post.
Artists of all ages and levels of experience are invited to consider what ignites their creativity and to explore and express that in clay, paint, glass, fiber, words, wax or photo.
That twinge of curiosity, that fire of wonder, that boggling paradox— what kindles this in you, pushing you toward expression? Does your creative imagination burn more brightly by the big lake, in the woods or over a cup of coffee? Water, dreams, light, sunrise, sunset, people, animals (wild or domestic), contradictions, grand philosophical themes, memories— what makes you want to articulate a response?
As winter stretches on, unpack those paints, papers, pots or those words, wax and watercolors. Dig for that creative spot within and express it!
For a third year, student artists at the high school, as well as students at local elementary schools, will be asked to submit work in response to this theme. (More information on student specifications will be available from teachers.)
Pieces can be dropped off at Johnson Heritage Post on Monday, March 20 or Tuesday, March 21. All pieces will need to be accompanied by a brief bio and a statement about the work. Maximum two pieces per artist.
The show will open on March 24 with a presentation. The speaker is still to be confirmed.
