A Zimmerman, Minnesota hunter’s big buck held up as the largest field dressed deer entered in the annual Buck’s Big Buck Contest.
Kevin Olson’s 275-pound submission topped the rest of the field by more than 50 pounds. Olson received a Remington Model 700 BDL 30-06 for his winning entry.
Grand Marais hunter Wendy Ford’s 215.4-pound buck was the second-heaviest deer recorded this year.
In the largest antler spread category, Shane Smith, Grand Marais, won $1,915, half of the money in the pot with his buck’s 20¾-inch antler spread.
Curt Laboda from Schroeder claimed the drawing. Curt took home $1,915 when his name was pulled from the entry box.
All told there were 383 people who took part in the 2017 contest. Each person throws $10 into the pot to join. Half of the prize money goes to the largest antler spread and the other half of the money goes to the lucky winner of the drawing.
