Ken Skoog

Kenneth Langley Skoog, age 89, passed away May 30, 2022. Born on June 12, 1932, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth, Minnesota, he is the son of the late Victor Skoog and the late Helga Morck Skoog.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his youngest son, Bill, and half-sister Daisy. He is survived by half-brother Harvey Morck of Grand Marais, daughter Barbara (Jeff) Hoffman, Cartersville, GA, and son, Bob, Silver Springs, Florida. He has 5 grandchildren, Josh & Jeremy Skoog of Greer, South Carolina, and Alicia Turner, Chelsea Medford, and Jared Hoffman all of Cartersville, Gorgia, and 8 great-grandchildren, Ashley and Alicia Skoog, Madison and Logan Skoog, Aiden and Liam Turner, and Madison Heithcock and Lizzy Hoffman.

Kenneth grew up, worked, and raised his family in Cook County until his retirement from Erie Mining Company in 1987. Thereafter he and Betty spent their summers in Silver Bay, Minnesota, and their winters in Silver Springs, Florida, until 2011 when they moved to Cartersville, Georgia to be near their daughter, Barbara and family. Marrying into the Powell family of Saganaga Lake, Kenneth became an experienced guide, fisherman, and hunter, though trapper he readily admitted he was not. Ken and Betty enjoyed traveling and camping in their various motorhomes throughout their retirement years.

More recently, spending summers in Grand Marais visiting Bev Denyes, Harvey, and other former classmates became the highlight of his year. Mr. Skoog will be interred at Maple Hill Cemetery, Grand Marais, alongside Betty and other family members.
