Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve celebrations may make some parents feel that they can relax the usual restrictions on alcohol use for their teens. As we near the time when these events will take place, the School Community Action Team would like to remind parents and other adults that providing alcohol to someone under 21 doesn’t come cheap.
Minnesota law changes in 2005 should make any adult think twice about providing alcohol to minors. If they do and are caught, they can be charged with a gross misdemeanor. They could go to jail for up to one year and be fined up to $3,000. In addition, any adult who provides alcohol to an underage drinker can be sued for any damages that result.
The School Community Action Team says, “We care about our teens and want them to enjoy the holidays—legally and safely!”
