Cook County News Herald

Keep it up, CCHS!

What a wonderful surprise when I went to the mail box and opened my Cook County News-Herald. There on the front page was the new CCHS marching band. That is fantastic. I am very partial to marching bands, as I was in “Ike’s” marching band. In fact, I am in the picture on page A9 of the band in Washington, D.C. That was a fabulous trip— and it was just a mere 50 years ago!

Then I got to section B and there is that fabulous CCHS football team, which now owns first place in the Polar Red Division! Congratulations!

Then, page two, and the fantastic volleyball players, who are in second place in their division. Awesome!

Then page three shows the wonderful cross-country runners, who are making huge strides every week. Wonderful!

Then page four shows the fabulous students who are members on the middle school and high school Knowledge Bowl. They placed first and second at their meets. Fantastic!

I am also in awe of how many students make the college dean’s lists. The percentage of students from Cook County who go on to college or trade schools and make the dean’s list is very high. And the number of students who make the honor roll each quarter is phenomenal.

All of what these young men and women do in the classroom and on the court or field speaks volumes for the wonderful job being done by the teachers, staff, and coaches.

I am so proud to say I am from Grand Marais and a graduate of CCHS. I have worked in many school systems over the years and CCHS is at the top of the list. These young men and women excel not only in academics, which is first and foremost, but in every sport they participate in. They are ready to take on the challenges of life after they graduate.

Congratulations, CCHS students, for all you do for your school and all you give to the community. You make us proud. Keep up the excellent work. See ya’ll at the playoffs!

Good luck Pam and Mitch!
