Kay Spielman, age 47, of Tofte, Minnesota, died on Saturday, May 6th at Essentia Health St Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota as the result of injuries sustained in an accident.
Kay Marie, the oldest daughter of Mark and Jenifer (Thompson) Spielman, was born on August 24, 1975, in Ada, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Aspelund Lutheran Church near Flom, Minnesota. Kay grew up on the family farm by Twin Valley, Minnesota, where she learned strong work ethic from her parents and grandpa, Lloyd Spielman. Growing up she was involved in Girl Scouts and 4-H. Through these programs, Kay learned many skills and became especially talented at sewing. Over the years, as her skills grew, Kay displayed many sewing projects across various exhibits and fairs.
Kay loved cats, a passion which started with the numerous litters of farm kittens she and her sisters spent hours playing with each summer. In 1994, Kay graduated from Waubun High School and continued her education at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, earning her degree in accounting in 1998. Kay was blessed with two daughters Kasey and Katrina. They lived in Horace, North Dakota, for a time, then in Washington state. They returned to Minnesota and made their home on the North Shore. Kay currently worked for the Lutsen Resort, Superior Shores Resort and was the clerk of the Tofte Township. Kay also had a love of reading that began with bedtime stories of Little House on The Prairie. Her biggest pride were her daughters and the life they made for themselves. Kay’s kind soul will be missed by many.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Kasey and Katrina Spielman of Tofte, Minnesota; her parents, Mark and Jenifer Spielman of Twin Valley; two sisters, Kelly (Leslie) Kent of Waubun and Tammy (Martin) Eyestone of Boulder, CO; and her nieces: Alanis Kent of West Fargo, ND, and Carissa and Leah Kent of Waubun; as well as her special friend Sean Cadotte, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kay was preceded in death by her grandparents Lloyd and Ruth Spielman, and Kalmer and Gloria “Bootsie” Thompson.
Memorial Services were held Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at the Maranatha Free Lutheran Church in Ulen, Minnesota.
A service to be held in Tofte, Minnesota will be announced when details are finalized.
