Katie Peck was the lone Viking player to be selected to play in the 2021 girls’ softball Polar League All- Star game.
The game was played Monday, June 21, in Esko and, when the contest was finished, the score was ruled a 4-4 tie.
Fourteen players were picked to play in the all-star game. Moose Lake/ Willow River sent four players, South Ridge two, Cromwell three, and Wrenshall, McGregor, Two Harbors and Cook County each had one representative.
Katie was virtually an everyday pitcher for the Vikings, this year. On April 29, Katie threw a no-hitter against the Northeast Range Nighthawks, striking out ten and walking just one batter. In a game against Floodwood, Katie drove in five runs and gave up one run on the mound.
Kate averaged .476 at the plate. She had 20 hits (four doubles, two triples and four home runs), 15 RBIs, and scored 18 runs. She led the team in all categories except tries, in which she tied with the team lead. When she didn’t pitch, she was the catcher, and Katie showed tremendous talent at that position.
