One of Kale Boomer’s last plays as a high school football player came when he intercepted a pass in the Minnesota High School All-Star Football game held Saturday, June 29 at Husky Stadium on the St. Cloud State University campus.
“We practiced for a week twice a day at St. John’s [college] to get ready for the game,” said Boomer.
The contest was a match-up of the best northern football players versus the best southern players in the state. Despite taking a 7-0 first-quarter lead, Boomer’s team lost 24-14, but, said Boomer, “It was a great game, close throughout. It was a lot of fun and a great experience.”
With that win the South now leads the series 10-9-1.
Boomer won a fistful of honors for his play over the four years he started on offense and defense for Cook County. In high school Boomer was a standout quarterback and played a variety of positions on the defensive side of the ball.
He will attend the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) on August 15 to begin football camp where he joins the top Division 2 program in the country, and he has been told he will be groomed to play safety.
When asked if he is training hard to get ready for college ball, Boomer said, “I work out four or five times a week with weights and do some cross training. I can’t wait for practice to start.”
Kale is the son of Mike and Lori Boomer of Grand Portage.
