The Junior Varsity Vikings were all but unstoppable during the second half of their game against the Two Harbors Agates last Monday, September 30, scoring 4 touchdowns in the second half while completely shutting down the Agates offense. It was the JV’s first game of the season and they showed a lot of toughness and talent as they pushed around the larger Two Harbor players.

Down 18-6 in the first half, the Cook County High School Vikings junior varsity football team put on an aerial display over the last two quarters and blew by a stunned Two Harbors Agates team last Monday night in a game played under the lights at Anderson Field.

Sophomore quarterback Leo Johnson hooked up with Andy Farley for two touchdown passes and Frankie Miller came in and quarterbacked and threw another beautiful strike to Farley to make it three catches for touchdowns for the firstyear wide receiver.

But Farley wasn’t done scoring. He also took a handoff on an end around and the speedy Farley left a field full of Agates tumbling in his wake as he found pay dirt for the fourth time.

“We’re (coaches) all really happy with the way the kids played,” said Head JV Coach Bryan Carpenter.

“On defense I thought Dylan Works had a good game at linebacker and Jamie Wick played really well at his defensive tackle position. Leo Johnson and Frankie Miller also had good games on defense.

“They pushed us around for awhile and then we got tired of that and pushed them back. The kids played a good football game. We came back strong, showed that we have some heart,” said Carpenter.

Due to a lack of manpower and the necessity to use younger players on the varsity, this was the first game of the year for the JV, Carpenter said. He reiterated, “We (coaches) really liked what we saw out there.”
