If you want to know the answer to a difficult question, there’s a fine group of highly intelligent knowledge seekers at Cook County ISD 166 that could probably give you the answer you are seeking.
In fact, those kids make up the ISD 166 Junior Varsity Knowledge Bowl team, which recently took first place in the 2020 Northeast Cooperative JV Knowledge Bowl Championships.
And the competition wasn’t even close.
Made up of ninth and tenth graders, the Vikings JV team scored 92 points to far outdistance second place, which garnered 67.5 points.
The winning team is made up of Kyler Hansen, Bryn Fitzgerald-Wells, Paul Dorr, Declan Gergets, Grace Ritchey, and Andrew Halberg.
With the win, the Vikings took first place in the fall season by beating International Falls, Virginia, Chisholm, Nashwauk- Keewatin, Cromwell-Wright and Northeast Range.
Because the competition was virtual, there is no team picture. On the school website there is a picture of a brain in the place of the kids’ photos. It’s an apt description of the youth that make up the JV team, which is coached by David Liechty.
