The Cook County JV Knowledge Bowl spent a beautiful snowy day inside at the Knowledge Bowl tournament in Mountain Iron on Tuesday, November 22. But things were exciting indoors! The Cook County team started the day ranked No. 4.
After the written round that started the tournament, there were only 5 points separating the teams ranked No. 2 through No. 17. “We knew it was going to be a close day,” said Coach April Wahlstrom.
Wahlstrom said, “The team went into the first round a little nervous but did great, gaining 13 points, which moved them up to 8th place. That gave them energy so during the second oral round they came out with 19 points, which moved them up to 3rd place.”
For the third round the team went against the 1st and 2nd place ranked teams which were Hermantown and Virginia. “This was a good place to be in,” said Wahlstrom.
The team tried their best and finished round three with 9 points, which bumped them down to 6th place.
Again, a good place to be, going into the final round, said Wahlstrom. “We knew that out of the top three teams one of those teams would be moved out, but in the room that we were in chances of one team moving up to the top three was high.
“They gave it their best and scored 14 points, which moved them into 3rd place with a final score of 92!” said Coach Wahlstrom.
Wahlstrom and co-coach TJ Super both expressed congratulations to the JV Knowledge Bowl team. “It was a great day,” said Wahlstrom.
