Juvenile charged in Grand Portage assault

Assault charges were filed against a 13-year-old male on Sunday, August 14, after an argument between two youths at the stone bridge on Stevens Road near the Grand Portage National Monument became physical. According to the complaint filed at Cook County court, a 13-year-old male allegedly kicked a 15-year-old male in the head, causing the victim to black out.

Grand Portage Ambulance was paged and transferred the older boy to the hospital. He suffered injuries to his head, ribs, abrasions, cuts, bruises and swelling.

The juvenile defendant is charged with assault in the third degree for causing substantial bodily harm to the victim, charges which could lead to imprisonment for not more than five years or a fine of $10,000 or both.

Neither of the juveniles resides in Cook County. Because both parties are juveniles, no further information on the incident has been released. When asked if the altercation was gangrelated, Cook County Attorney Tim Scannell said there is no evidence of any gang-related activity.
