Junior Legion wins/loses

Cook County Junior Legion has been playing a lot of baseball as of late, getting ready for Junior Legion Sub-State playoffs.

Om Wednesday, July 24 the young team from Cook County faced a very experienced squad from Brookston, and Cook County fell 15-5 in five innings. Many of Brookston’s players were on South Ridge’s high school state qualifying team this past spring.

Brookston scored three runs in the first, seven in the second, and three in the third to lead 13-2 after three innings.

A bright spot in the game was the fifth inning when Isaiah Deschampe and Vaughn Swindlehurst collected RBIs to help Cook County Jr. Legion score three runs in that last inning.

Patrick Pierre led Cook County with two hits, while Isaiah Deschampe and Vaughn Swindlehurst each got one hit.

Connor Buschbaum was 3-4 at the plate to lead Brookston. Overall Brookston batters collected 11 hits in the game and stole nine bases.

Jaxson Bennett was the winning pitcher. He pitched two innings, giving up one run on one hit and walking two. He struck out six Cook County Junior Legion batters.

Tate Crawford took the loss. He pitched one and one-third innings, giving up six runs on eight hits. Patrick Pierre and Jacob Dorr each pitched in relief with little better luck than Crawford.

Cook County 14U
beats Silver Bay 10-1

After three innings the score was 1-1 in the North Shore baseball battle of 14U players in a game played Tuesday, July 23 in Silver Bay.

Kole Anderson’s double in the first inning drove in one run and Silver Bay tied it up when a runner was walked in.

Cook County scored three runs in the fourth inning to bust the game open. Weston Heeren was walked, which brought in one run, Paul Dorr hit into a fielder’s choice to drive home a second run, and the team scored one more on an error.

A five-run sixth inning was led by RBIs from Cy Oberholtzer, Ben Obinger and J Shannon.

Paul Dorr picked up the win for Cook County 14U. He pitched four strong innings, relieving Kole Anderson, who started and pitched one inning. Paul gave up one hit, no runs, and struck out five batters in four innings. Weston Heeren mopped up the last two innings, allowing no runs and striking out one batter.

All told the Viking pitchers allowed one hit in the game.

Kole Anderson was 2-2 from the plate to lead the team in hitting. The following players each had one hit: Derek Smith, Ray Dresseley, Ryan Smith, Weston Heeren, and Paul Dorr. Cook County 14U players also stole seven bases in the game.
