Down 8-1 after three innings and another starter — the fourth starter — opting to leave to take Drivers Education had Viking Head Coach Arleigh Jorgenson worried.
“Well, this is a chance for some of the kids who don’t get to play as much to show their stuff,” said Jorgenson.
And show their stuff they did.
The Vikings mounted a sweet comeback, putting up four runs in the fourth, four more in the fifth and three in the sixth while holding the ‘Falls to one run over those four innings.
Cy Oberholtzer led the team by going 2-4 and posting six RBI’s. Also, each getting one hit was Amos Falter, Paul Dorr (who also walked twice), Hunter Gomez, R. Shannon, Tucker Cook, C. Smith, J. Shannon, and B. Meyers.
After getting knocked around a bit in the first three innings Viking pitcher Paul Dorr settled down and with his defense catching and fielding everything in sight, the International Falls offense was pretty much shut down. Paul threw all seven innings and only gave up one run the last four innings. In all, he allowed eight runs and ten hits while striking out three and walking two.
Both teams finished with ten hits. The Vikings only had one error while the ‘Falls’ finished with three.
And after the game, Head Coach Arleigh Jorgenson was left with the kind of dilemma any coach would want. He had subs, but subs he discovered that could step up and take over a game.
