Junior Legion playoffs begin

The Cook County/ Silver Bay Junior Legion baseball team traveled to Aurora on Tuesday, July 27 to face the Cherry Tiger’s Junior Legion team in a night game played under the lights. While the Vikings played well, they ran into a red hot pitcher and an equally strong relief pitcher.

After a scoreless first period Cherry pushed one run across the plate to lead 1-0. The Tigers scored three runs in the fourth inning on a single that cleared the bases.

The Vikings scored its lone run in the fifth inning and Cherry went on to win 5-1.

Jude Sundquist was the winning pitcher. Jude didn’t give up a hit or a run in the four and a third inning he was on the mound. He struck out nine CC/SB batters. Sam Serna relieved Jude, coming out of the bullpen to throw for two and two-third innings and didn’t allow a hit.

Jacob Carpenter was on the mound for the Vikings. Jacob pitched four innings, allowing four runs on six hits. Jacob struck out three and walked one batter.

J Shannon got the only Viking RBI on a sacrifice fly that brought in Ray Dressley. Dressley was walked and advanced to third on a passed ball.

The Vikings ended with two errors to one for Cherry.

The final seeding results left the boys form Cook County in fifth place out of ten teams. Cherry was ranked one spot higher in fourth.

All of the playoff games were required to be played the entire seven innings unless the ten run rule went into effect after five innings

Even with the loss the Vikings advanced to Ely to play on Friday, July 30 in the double elimination tournament. A second loss would end the Vikings play off hopes, so it’s win or go home.
