Junior Legion Cook County/Silver Bay falls to Aurora in double header



On Friday, July 9 the Jr. Legion Cook County/Silver Bay team traveled to Aurora to square off twice against the Aurora Jr. Legion team. Unfortunately, the Vikings lost both games.

In the first outing the Vikings fell behind two nothing after the first inning of play. Both of Aurora’s first runs came on walks, and Aurora would score on a wild pitch in the second inning.

Aurora scored three runs in the second to go up five nothing.

Neither team scored in the third, but the Vikings narrowed the gap when they pushed two runs across in the fourth and held Aurora scoreless.

Down 5-2 in the fifth, the Vikings couldn’t rally and couldn’t stop Aurora from adding three more runs to take an 8-2 lead. The Vikings would tally two in the sixth and Aurora one more run before the game ended after seven innings with Aurora taking a 9-4 win.

Number 7 pitched a strong game for Aurora, giving up three runs on five hits over five innings.

Braylen Hoff took the loss for the Vikings. Braylen pitched two innings, giving up one hit and five runs while striking out three.

The Vikings outhit Aurora six to four. Getting hits for the Vikings was Braylen Hoff, Cy Oberholtzer, Ray Dressley, Paul Dorr, Jake Stadler and Jacob Carpenter.

The Vikings ended with three errors and Aurora four. Aurora batters received nine walks to five for the Vikings.

Vikings fall in five inning game two

Game two of the double header was held to five innings because of darkness.

Aurora took a one to nothing lead in the first on a home run. The Vikings tied the score in the second when Braylen Hoff singled in a run. However, that was all the offense the Vikings could muster.

Aurora tallied four runs in the third off a single that brought in an RBI and an error that allowed two runs to score.

Aurora’s pitcher held the Vikings to three hits and one run over five innings, striking out five.

Jake Stadler took the loss for the Vikings. Jake pitched four innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. Jake struck out four and didn’t walk anyone in his outing.

Braylen Hoff was two for two at the plate to lead the Vikings in hitting. Amos Falter got the other hit for the Vikings.

The Vikings committed one error and Aurora played error free ball.
