Junior Legion Cook County/ Silver Bay come on strong at the end to take a victory over Ely

The Cook County/Silver Bay Junior Legion baseball team used a last inning barrage of runs to defeat the Junior Legion team from Ely in a home game played Friday, July 16.

Knotted at 2-2, the Vikings scored four runs in the fifth and final inning to win 6-2.

Ely took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Neither team scored in the second and Ely went up 2-0 in the bottom of the third until the Vikings came up to bat. Ray Dressely doubled on a 1-1 count to drive in two runs and even the score.

Jacob Carpenter was sharp on the mound, pitching a complete game for the Vikings. Jacob allowed two run, six hits, four walks and struck out four in a strong performance.

Ray Dressley and Cy Oberholtzer each had two hits to lead the Vikings offense. Other Vikings who recorded a hit were Amos Falter, Jae Stadler. And Jacob Carpenter, who drove in three runs with his fifth inning poke.

The Vikings committed one error while Ely had two. The Vikings walked seven times to four for Ely.
