Junior Legion baseball team falls to Ely



Baseball fans saw lots of action in the Tuesday, June 14 baseball game that pitted Ely against Cook County/ Silver Bay Jr. Legion. The high scoring contest ended with Ely taking a 17-9 win over seven innings of play.

The Vikings were held scoreless through the first three innings as Ely took a 5-0 lead. In the top of the fourth the Vikings pushed three runs across the plate, but the Timberwolves countered with five more runs to go up 10-3.

The JR Legion CC/SB Vikings rallied in the sixth with six runs. Four Vikings, Jake Stadler, Hunter Gomez, Jacob Carpenter and Amos Falter all had RBIs in the sixth to make it 11-9. However, the Timberwolves countered with five runs in the bottom of the inning to pull away for good.

Ely’s hurler, Panichi, led his team to the win. He threw five innings, allowing six hits and three run while striking out seven and walking one.

Jake Stadler took the loss for the Vikings. Jake pitched two innings, allowing five runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked one.

At the plate, Hunter Gomez was two for three with one walk and one RBI. Jacob Carpenter was two for four with three RBIs. Amos Falter was two for three for one walk, two RBIs, and two stolen bases. Jake Mixdorf was one for one, Tucker Cook walked and scored a run in his two at bats. Ryan Shannon walked twice and scored a run. Hunter Rex walked twice, Benelli Myers was one for four and Jake Stadler was one for five with two RBIs.

Ely finished with 12 hits, 10 walks, five strikeouts, four stolen bases, and committed three errors.

The Vikings ended with nine hits, seven walks, 11 strikeouts and four errors.
