The community is invited to join in a service of Prayer and Lament, in memory of George Floyd and in support of criminal justice reform, Friday, June 19, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. This day of “Juneteenth,” commemorating the end of slavery, also falls on the fifth anniversary of the murder of members of the historic
Black church, Mother Emmanuel in Charleston. We will gather in remembrance of the on-going legacy of racial violence and declare our intention to work for change.
Led by members and friends of First Congregational United Church of Christ, this brief service of music, readings and prayer will be held outside in the church parking lot. Participants will be asked to wear facemasks and maintain adequate social distancing. Following the service, the group is invited to walk with us down to Highway 61 for the 5:00 p.m. Friday public witness for peace and justice.
