June activities at North Shore Living

The warmer weather is definitely welcomed by residents at North Shore Living. Many have already enjoyed time on the patios, and everyone looks forward to the official first day of summer. There are a lot of improvements planned for our outdoor areas. These include: plantings and garden boxes, adding a shaded area, incorporating access to the gazebo, and purchasing a glider swing that accommodates wheelchairs. It will be fun and exciting to see these additions implemented into our outdoor living space as the summer progresses.

A rainy Memorial Day didn’t stop the residents from enjoying a picnic lunch with hot dogs right off the grill! With more picnics planned, we’re sure to get a sunny day sometime.

Several of our wonderful volunteers attended our Volunteer Brunch held on May 16. This gave the residents and staff of North Shore Living an opportunity to honor and celebrate the folks who so generously give their time and talents to enhance the lives of those who live here. You make a difference, and you all are so very special.

The residents enjoyed an afternoon of fun on May 14 to celebrate Lisa Bloomquist’s upcoming wedding. Pictured here are (L-R) Mary Liebsch, Jean Roberts, and Jim Haussner. It was a fun day on May 29 when the kindergarteners from Great Expectations came to North Shore Living with an abundance of flowers to plant in our garden boxes. It will make our patio a joyful place this summer, and we sincerely thank them for their time and companionship.

The monthly birthday party will be held on June 12 at 3 p.m. to celebrate Jim Haussner, Donna Willet, and Honey Rosen. Cake and ice cream will be served, and Doug Sanders will play piano for the event.

June 13-20 is National Nursing Assistants week. The residents want to thank all of the dedicated nursing assistants who work at North Shore Living for the compassionate care they provide every day of the year. Thank you for all you do!

There is plenty of good music lined up for June that feature guitar and piano music performances by Myron Bursheim and Susan Scherer on most Sunday and Wednesday afternoons. Also, Amy Schmidt will be entertaining us on June 17 at 2 p.m. The classic country band Portage will perform for a dance at North Shore Living the last Saturday of the month on June 29 at 6:30 p.m. As always, families, friends, and community folks are welcome to join us for any of our music events.

An outing is planned for June 20 to have lunch with our friends at The Hub. More outdoor outings are planned in the coming months for the residents to enjoy all the fun festivities that our summer season brings.
