On July 4, 2014, the Cook County Sheriff ’s office received a call from a landlord reporting a deceased person in Grand Marais. The Cook County Sheriff ’s Office, Cook County Search & Rescue and the Cook County Coroner responded. Mark Anthony Sluder, 22, was found deceased at his residence in Grand Marais.
At that time Cook County Law Enforcement said no criminal conduct was suspected. An autopsy was conducted and on July 29, 2014, the St. Louis County Office of Medical Examiner released the results. Assistant Medical Examiner Roberta L. Zimmerman, M.D. determined that the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Dr. Zimmerman said the manner of death is suicide.
