Ah, Facebook. You can request friends and you can deny access, you can even delete your posts but really, what you are putting out there the whole world will see if someone wants it to be seen. Take for instance “Mr. Local Gym Owner.” He recently posted on his Facebook page, “I can’t help to laugh and shake my head when I see peeps in the gym on the exercise bikes, elliptical, or treadmills and spend so much time on them, barely moving, never raising their heart rate or even breaking one drop of sweat. And they think they are getting ‘in shape’!”
Well Mr. Local Gym Owner, guess what? There are “peeps” out there that you have now discouraged to even join a gym, especially your gym. All along one may have been thinking about how they would like to start working out or lifting a few weights but were worried about being judged for not working as hard as some of the “healthy” or “skinny” people. They think about the intimidation of not being able to keep up in a class with all the gym rats.
Great example, Mr. Local Gym Owner! Right there in public forum you have just said, “Hey overweight people, we are judging you! Your fears are justified! But, please still join our gym and give us your money each month so we can post about you on our Facebook page. We say we want to ‘Motivate, Inspire and Empower,’ but we really just want to be able laugh and shake our heads at you.”
Who wants to be judged like that?
