Jr. Legion beats Cherry, falls to Virginia



Adam Dorr pitched a complete game to take the win for Cook County Jr. Legion in the team’s win over second seeded Cherry in the Junior Legion subsection playoffs.

The game was played on Sunday, July 28 in Esko, the first of a doubleheader for the boys, and it was the team’s first win of the season.

Dorr finished with five strikeouts, one walk, and gave up seven hits and four runs to the talented Cherry Tigers.

Kole Anderson wielded the big bat for his team, going 3-4 at the plate and driving in four RBIs. Collecting one hit each was Isaiah Deschampe, Patrick Pierre, and Jacob Dorr.

Cook County Jr. Legion scored three runs in the second, two in the fourth and one in the sixth inning while holding Cherry to three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to win 6-4.

N. Peterson and A. Michaels each had two hits for Cherry.

J. Caple was the losing pitcher. Caple pitched six and one-third innings, giving up six run off of six hits. He walked three and ended with 10 strikeouts.

Cook County Jr. Legion falls to Virginia

Playing in a light rain in the second game of the day, Cook County Jr. Legion was down 5-0 after three innings and never could get its offense going against Virginia, with Cook County Jr. Legion losing 9-0.

Jacob Dorr was the losing pitcher. He went four innings, giving up six runs off of five hits. He struck out three and walked four. Tate Crawford relieved Jacob and gave up two hits, three runs and struck out one in two innings.

Virginia scored two in the first, three in the third, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth to steadily pull away from Cook County Jr. Legion.

Collecting one hit each for the team was Kole Anderson, Vaughn Swindelhurst, Jacob Dorr, Riley Tarver, and Paul Dorr.

Mason Carlson took the win for Virginia. He pitched three and two-third innings, giving up three hits, striking out six and walking one. Ryan Sheif threw three and a third innings of shutout ball in relief of Mason.

Nick Peters was three for three at the plate to lead Virginia’s offense.

Despite the loss the team moved on to play Tuesday, July 30 against the loser of the Brookston versus Taconite matchup.

Cook County Jr. Legion falls to Taconite, ends season

Cook County Jr. Legion ran into a tough pitcher, an error free defense and a high-octane offense when it met Taconite on Tuesday, July 30 in Esko.

Cook County Jr Legion fell 10-1 in the game, falling out of the district playoffs.

Olson dominated from the mound, striking out 11 Cook County batters in five and two-thirds innings. He gave up one run on four hits.

Kole Anderson relieved Tate Crawford, who started the game. Crawford pitched two-thirds of one inning, striking out two, walking two, and giving up one hit and one run.

Kole threw five innings, giving up eight runs on six hits. He struck out six and walked six.

Taconite ended with eight hits and eight walks.

The game was close through five innings, with Taconite up 4-1. Taconite scored one run in the first, one in the third, two in the fourth and then exploded for six runs in the sixth inning. Cook County scored its lone run in the fourth inning off an RBI single by Patrick Pierre that scored Isaiah Deschampe.

Kole Anderson led his teammates at the plate with a 2-4 performance. Collecting one hit each were Isaiah Deschampe, Patrick Pierre, and Adam Dorr. Isaiah walked in his only other appearance at the plate and he also had two stolen bases in the contest.
