Joyce Krueger Taylor, a Loving Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandmother, Favorite Aunt, Faithful Friend, Accomplished Skier, Marvelous Cook and Extraordinary Quilter whose family was the love of her life, are but a few ways to best describe our beautiful mother, Joyce Taylor, who passed away peacefully on May 9, 2019.
She was born at home on Sept. 6, 1927 in Chisago City, Minn. and spent her early years there with her brothers and sister before the family moved to Minneapolis where she graduated from Southwest HS in 1945. She married into the Krueger family in 1947, settling in Tofte at the North Shore Hotel.
Early times there were spent helping run the resort as a maid, salad girl and waitress but more importantly teaching us to love and respect the North Shore. She and Joyce Krueger, the “sisters in law,” became famous as the “Two Joyces” when they became the “lady chefs” for the hotel.
In 1971 after Jenni, her youngest daughter, graduated from high school she spread her wings and headed to Boulder, Colorado where her childhood friend lived. She found love again with Grandpa Jack Taylor who thankfully moved her back to Minnesota where she was able to enjoy her growing family again. In 1991 she returned to her beloved North Shore in Silver Bay where many new friends welcomed her into their community and she reconnected with all her Tofte friends.
One thing death can’t take from us is Love! Love is not a memory but a feeling that resides in our hearts forever. We are all blessed for having been loved by her for an amazing 91½ years!
Joyce is survived by her three daughters, Debby (John) Lilly, Becky Falch, Jennifer (Bob) Swanson; stepsons Chuck (Wendy) Taylor, Tim (Sara) Taylor; grandchildren Beckie (Danny) Cantwell, Jessie (Nick) Lecy, Joshua (Gretchen) Falch, Adam Falch, Matt (Jenny) Oullis, Lyndsay (Kent) Anderson and Christopher, Joshua, Brandon, Brooke, Sydney, Spencer and Charlotte Taylor; and great-grandchildren Caylin and Avery Cantwell, Sam and Jack Lecy, Anja Falch and Devin Oullis.
Join us for a Celebration of Life at Zoar Lutheran Church in Tofte on Friday, June 21 at 2 p.m. Memorials are preferred to the North Shore Commercial Fishing Museum in Tofte, where she was a charter member.
