Jon M. “Swede” Nelson,

Westminster, Colorado, passed away July 19, 2016 in Colorado at age 78 of myelodysplastic syndrome, complicated by Parkinson’s disease.

Jon was born to Evelyn and Ferdinand Nelson on February 1, 1938, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

A 1956 graduate of North High School, Jon played varsity basketball, football and tennis. He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Business in 1961. After many years in the Minneapolis business community, Jon retired in 1991 from North Star Computer Supply, as vice president of sales and marketing.

In retirement, Jon enjoyed living between homes in Wayzata and on Seagull Lake at the end of the Gunflint Trail. Jon especially enjoyed his many friends, the BWCA, walleye fishing, U of M basketball and Vikings football.

In 2013, Jon and Ruth moved to Colorado to live closer to family.

Jon is survived by his wife, Ruth and daughters Elizabeth Doyle (Kevin) Westminster, and Allison McCoy (Clark) Windsor, Colorado; six granddaughters, Peyton and Regan Doyle; Ryan, Maggie, Frankie and Lulu McCoy; sister, Jan Wolden (Charles) of Stillwater, Minnesota and nephews Colin, David and Derek; and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial donations may be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and St. Jude Children’s Research.
