John Mianowski


 

 

John T. Mianowski passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022. John was born February 17, 1956, to Jane and Walter Mianowski. He was an only child.

After graduating from Cook County High School in 1974 John attended the University of Minnesota. While living in the Twin Cities John played bass guitar for a number of rock bands. Much like his mother Jane, John was a wizard at math and computers. At some point John moved to Greenville, Texas to pursue a career in computer programming for an IT company. Sometime around 2010 or so, he returned to Cook County where he worked for Cascade Lodge. He also worked as an IT consultant for WTIP radio, and he played bass guitar for several bands including the Wunderdogs and 4-Shore. In 2015 John was one of the main organizers of the Grand Marais Music Collaborative, a non-profit corporation formed to create a service and support for musicians.

John is survived by some cousins in Pennsylvania. His father, Walter, former Mayor of Grand Marais and a business owner, passed away on April 20, 2018. His mother, Jane, legendary high school math teacher who has a room named after her at I.S.D. 166, passed away February 13, 2008.

There is no date for a funeral or celebration of life at this time, but one will be set in the near future.
