John M. Eibert of St. Paul died February 6, 2018.
John was born Jan. 20, 1925 and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. He attended St. Luke’s grade school, high school at St. Thomas Academy and graduated from St. Thomas College. He entered the Army in 1944, was a proud paratrooper during World War II, and received a Purple Heart for his bravery.
Upon graduating from St. Thomas College, he worked with his father and brother Paul at Eibert Coffee in St. Paul. John passed away peacefully after celebrating his 93rd birthday with all his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara and his daughter Anne. He is survived by his children Susan (Tom) Focke, John (Marsha), Elizabeth (Chuck) Kelley, Rob (Trish), Joe (Sarah) and Barbie (Eddie) Carpenter. John is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
John loved spending his summers up on the Gunflint Trail as well as hitting the links at T&C. He was also part of an amazing group of friends, “The Boys,” who met every Thursday night for dinner. It is a special group of men who’ve supported each other and remained close since grade school. His friends were a gift and he cherished their bond.
The Eibert family would like to extend special thanks to Legacy Home Care for helping us keep John in his own home. Their excellent care and compassion is greatly appreciated.
We would also like to recognize the amazing staff and care he received at the Minneapolis VA Hospital and Hospice Care Unit. John was a proud veteran and was well respected during his care at the VA Hospital. We also thank our father’s caring and patient neighbors who would check in on our dad and communicate with the family on a regular basis, and his good friends Danny, Steve and Molly, Jeff and Lynette and Steve.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2 p.m. February 13 at Church of the Assumption in St. Paul with visitation at 1:15 p.m. at the church. Private family interment.
