John Gustaf Lindell, 84, of Grand Marais and Green Valley, Ariz., passed away Oct. 24, 2016. John was born June 27, 1932, in Ashland, Wis. to Mary Katherine and Ivar Gustaf Lindell. John grew up in Grand Marais, and graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. He lived in Plymouth, Minn. until retiring at age 52 and moving to Green Valley for winters and returning home to Grand Marais for summers.
John began his career as a CPA for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. and held many roles, including auditor, venture capitalist, banker, and entrepreneur before retiring as CEO of RayGo Corporation.
John’s business and personal life included international travel and adventure, entertaining family and friends, tennis, Lake Superior fishing, 50 years of Minnesota Gophers football attendance, renowned Ole and Lena jokes, and business advising until his last days. He was a respected corporate partner, faithful friend, and a wonderful and adored father and grandfather.
John was preceded in death by wife,Jeanne Lindell, and is survived by children Judy, Steve (Christy), and Tommy (Lucia); grandchildren Mia, Berit, and Alexa; and companion Barb Olson.
Services were held at Valley Presbyterian Church, 2800 S. Camino Del Sol, on Oct. 29. If friends desire, donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust or donor’s choice.
