John Castle (Jack) Hussey, 90, passed away June 15th, 2022, at Hospice of Hope in Maysville, Kentucky.
Jack was born March 18, 1932, in Grand Marais, Minnesota to the late Francis Castle “Cac” Hussey and Amy Gladys (Backlund) Hussey. Survivors include his sons, John (Marsha) Hussey of Pittsburgh, PA, Michael Hussey of Maysville, KY, and Richard (Christina) Hussey of St. Charles, IL. Jack is also survived by his grandchildren Christopher, Alexandra, John, Olivia, Aidan, and Genevieve Hussey.
In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Ann Cartmell Hussey, and his brother, James P. Hussey.
Jack graduated from Cook County (MN) High School before serving in the U.S. Army. Upon discharge, Jack began a 50-year career in industrial purchasing, first with Dravo Corporation and later with Dayton Power and Light, (DPL). Project assignments took him, Ann, and their growing family to homes in many places including West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania, before moving to Maysville, KY in 1978. While working with Dravo, Jack also experienced extended postings away from home in Seattle and Spokane, Washington, as well as Algiers, Algeria. Jack then retired after a 20-year career with DPL, in 2002.
Jack was active in the community with the Catholic Church, the St. Patrick Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts, Lions Club, and Kiwanis, in addition to numerous civic boards and organizations. Jack’s charitable endeavors included the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, and the American Red Cross as an ardent blood donor – having donated over 250 pints of blood in his lifetime. Jack also enjoyed his daily walks with friends and trips to Hawaii, Florida, Minnesota, Ireland and England with his wife and family.
Private services will be in the St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation will not be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests blood donations in honor of Jack’s memory, or memorials to the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Community Care of Mason County (“Food Bank”) or the charity of one’s choice.
