Joanne Marie Rask





 

 

Joanne Marie Rask, age 82, of Hibbing passed away peacefully at her home in Hibbing on January 12, 2013.

Joanne was born on March 20, 1930, in Two Harbors, the daughter of the late Johannes and Verna Monson. She grew up on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Tofte. In 6th grade she attended school in Meadowlands, MN. She attended high school in Grand Marais.

In 1951 Joanne graduated from St. Luke’s in Duluth with a four-year degree as a Registered Nurse. On September 11, 1954, she married John Dennis Rask of Meadowlands, MN. In addition to raising a family, Joanne was employed at East Range Clinic in Aurora and Virginia, the dispensary at Erie Mining Company, and the Arrowhead Nursing Home in Virginia.

She loved to sew, crochet, hardanger, scrapbook, bake, and fish for walleyes (not northerns!). Joanne also loved their cabin of 40+ years on Lake Eshquagama.

Joanne is a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing. Joanne has also been a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Club “50” Dance Club, and Ladies Aide past president.

Joanne is survived by two sons, Mike Rask of Appleton, Wisconsin, and Roger (Shelley) Rask of Hibbing; one daughter Donna (Greg) Hoag of Hibbing; two sisters Barb (Dannie) Jones of Lutsen, MN, and Priscilla Revier of Tofte; two brothers John (Patty) Monson of Embarrass, MN, and David Monson of Tofte; and six grandchildren Jennifer (Mike) Lueder of Chicago, IL, Christine Rask of Hibbing, Brittany Rask of Rochester, MN, and Ryan, Kyle, and Sara Hoag of Hibbing.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Dennis Rask; two brothers, Paul Mueller and Dan Monson; and an infant sister, Francis.

Visitation and a celebration of Joanne’s life was held Friday, January 18, 2013 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing. The Reverend Brian Birk will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Sunrise Cemetery in Duluth. Memorials are preferred to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or East Range Hospice.
