Jessica “Jessa” (Gamble) Roquet of Roseville, Minnesota, slipped away peacefully at age 42, after a brave 15-month battle with cancer.
Jessa was born in Mora, Minnesota, on December 27, 1978, to Garry and Renée Gamble (Grand Marais, Minnesota). As the daughter of folk musicians, she flourished in a family culture of tight harmonies, storytelling, and guitars. After graduating class of 2001 from Bethel University, Jessa built a musical treasure chest of her own as Gambler’s Daughter.
Her diagnosis came a month after her Serotinous Skin album release concert on February 8, 2020. Noted for her poetic lyricism, rich voice, and contagious laughter, Jessa rallied a community of loyal friends and musicians to her support.
From Jessa’s journal: “Even when I am in pain, I will trust in you, God…. My life is, and always has been, in your hands.”
Jessa leaves behind dearly loved daughters Elena, Nyah, and Liza; Shatera (Graham) Thorson (Daniel); sisters Rochelle Gloege (Peter), Naomi Zupfer (Jeffrey), Emily Carlson (Phillip); and brother, Jeremiah Gamble (Vanessa).
Memorial gifts may be directed to: Jessa Roquet Music Foundation, PO Box 477, Grand Marais, MN 55604.
A July celebration of life is being planned, details to be posted on Jessa’s CaringBridge, website, and Facebook page. Queries may be directed to garrygamble@ me.com.
