Jean Brislance’s trio of colorful warblers

Lutsen photographer Jean Brislance recently sent this collection of warblers that have been visiting his yard. A keen eye and great photographer, Brislance never disappoints with his pictures.

“Our most exciting one was the Black-throated Blue Warbler. They are considered somewhat rare in our state. However, there is a small population of them that nest in a narrow range of northeastern Minnesota, which is also the far western edge of their breeding range in the U.S. A very classy looking bird.

“This bright yellow warbler with the black cap is the Wilson’s Warbler. They are really quick and rarely sit still as they bounce around through the trees and thickets. Because of that, I find them to be one of the more difficult warblers to photograph, so I was pleased to get this shot.

“The last one is the Tennessee Warbler. We had several of them coming into our yard to drink from the hummingbird feeder during some of our recent chilly spring days when insects were scarce. They are quite resourceful!”
