January activities at North Shore Health

The Christmas season was full of joy, music, and memorable moments for the residents of North Shore Health. There was plenty of their favorite holiday foods and treats, gift giving, and time with family and friends. The residents want to thank the American Legion Auxiliary, the Cook County Girl Scouts, North Shore Health employees, and all the other community members who helped make this a very happy and joyous holiday season.

We have a lot of fun indoor activities planned for those cold and snowy days of January. There will be baking activities, crafting fun, movies, and lots of game fun. We are anxious to try out some of those new games that Santa brought us for Christmas!

The monthly birthday party will be held on Wednesday, January 8, at 3 p.m., to celebrate Jean Roberts and Irene Peterson’s birthdays. There will be cake and ice cream for everyone, and Doug Sanders will play our favorite piano tunes.

The Grand Marais W.I.S.E. group will host a social event on January 18, starting at 3 p.m., at North Shore Living.

Pictured above, the Girl Scouts of Cook County recently visited North Shore Health, bringing poinsettia plants for every resident, and singing Christmas carols. Their visit and generosity was enjoyed by all! Delores Saethre, pictured to the right, displays some of the beautiful items she made for the Resident Council holiday sale. Portage Band will be back on January 25, at 6:30 p.m., to treat us to an evening of country music. Other music this month features Myron Bursheim on Sunday afternoons, Susan Scherer on Wednesday afternoons, and a sing-a-long with Pastor Daren Blanck on Monday, January 20, at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend any of our music events.

January 19-25 is National Activity Professionals week. This is a time to recognize how meaningful activities enrich the quality of life at any age. It is also a time to acknowledge the Activity Department staff and the many volunteers who make our programs happen all year long. We could not do it without you!

A “Winter Warmth” block party will be held on Tuesday, January 28, at 2 p.m., for residents and their families. Hot cocoa and treats will be served to beat off those winter blues!

An outing to “The Hub” (the senior center) is planned for January 30, to have lunch and visit with all of our friends there.

The residents and staff of North Shore Health wish everyone a healthy and Happy New Year!
