Janet Shold


 

 

Janet Shold, age 93, of Carlton, Minnesota, passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota. She was born on March 30, 1928, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, to August and Marion Carlson.

Janet grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin. She met her husband Roger Shold while attending classes at Bethel College. They married and settled in Grand Marais, Minnesota in the 1950’s, where Roger became a partner in Shold & Lovaas Service Station in 1953. Janet was a selfless homemaker who was extremely dedicated to her family. She had an open-door policy; the coffee pot was always on, and a warm meal was always available.

Janet earned her Master Gardener certificate through the University of Minnesota program. She always had a large garden, from which she shared produce with family and friends each season. Janet was an avid bird watcher and berry picker; she supplied her family with blueberries. Roger and Janet enjoyed sharing their home with young and old, for a night or two. Janet will be remembered for her generosity, devotion to her family, and her selflessness.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger; and her sister, Eleanor Linden. Survivors include her children, Bev (Vince) Petruzalek, Linda (Robert) Hausauer, Duane (Ardith), Brian (Susan), and Becky (Steve) Strom; her grandchildren, Tara (Mark), Donna (Brent), Jessica (Candace), Josh (Ryan), Amanda, Ethan (Hannah), Alex, Zach, Erica (Kristian) and Rachel (Josh); eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Grand Marais, Minnesota. To leave an online condolence, visit www.nelsonfuneralcare.net.
