James L. Hastings,





 

 

James L. Hastings, age 90, of Grand Marais, and formerly of Duluth, passed away January 25, 2014 in Duluth.

James was born in Two Harbors to Samuel and Sophie Hastings. He graduated from Two Harbors High School, University of MN – Duluth, and was a World War II veteran.

James is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene “Buddy” (Evelyn) and wife, Phyllis.

He is survived by sisters Kathleen Leist and Phyllis Erholtz of Two Harbors, Marilyn “Boo” (Doug) Christensen of New Brighton, MN; daughters Cynthia Vognsen (Mark) of Otsego, MN, Kim Holland (Anson) of Upland, CA, Patty Davidson (Jim) of Maple Grove, MN, Nancy Hastings of Clarissa, MN; grandchildren Andrea Jahr (Drew), Eric Vognsen (Rachel), Katy Rose (Mike), Jason Davidson (Michelle), Nick Davidson (Ashly), Ali Holland; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He loved fishing, hunting, dancing, his beautiful flower gardens at the cabin and coaching basketball at Duluth Central High School.

Celebration of Life service will be May 3, 2014 at Hermantown Community Church, 4880 Maple Grove Raod, Hermantown, MN. Visitation with family and friends begins at 10 a.m. Service at 11 a.m. with reception to follow.
